Rev. David Garrett
Bro. Dave received his call to ministry in high school; church had always played a big part in his life, so it was a natural fit. He began preaching while a student at Lambuth College (Jackson, TN), where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1985. He completed his Master of Divinity degree at the School of Theology at Claremont (CA) in 1989 and was ordained Elder in the United Methodist Church in 1991. Since then, he has served churches large and small across the Annual Conference.
“What I like about Trinity UMC,” he said, “is our mission statement: to love, grow, and serve. To me, that is the core of everything we are called to be.”
Bro. Dave is married to Karen, a speech-language pathologist and California native. Together they share the affections of two slightly overweight and indifferent cats. They also enjoy the company of several nieces and nephews who join them bicycling and in lake activities.
Jim Smith has only been on staff at TRINITY United Methodist Church for a short while yet has quickly been made to feel quite at home. Jim grew up in the church, the son of a minister–father and musician–mother. The church is where he nurtured passion for music, grew in faith, and found direction. Jim earned his B.S. in Music from Southwest
Baptist University in Bolivar, Missouri (1988) and a Masters of Divinity from Memphis Theological Seminary in Memphis, Tennessee (1992). Point of fact, Jim’s first music-related job was during Seminary, as Director of Worship and Music at Grace United Methodist Church in Memphis, Tennessee. Jim’s leadership over the years has included
church choirs, community choruses, children’s choirs, and church praise bands.
Jim also proudly served in the Army National Guard. He served as Bass Trombonist and front singer with the 106th Army Band. Throughout Seminary, Jim was assigned to the State Area Command, 39th Infantry Brigade as a Chaplain Candidate. After Seminary, he was Battalion Chaplain for the 5/206th Field Artillery.
Jim has been married to Paducah native Nancy Allen Smith since April 2008. Jim is currently employed as a Hospice Field Chaplain. Jim and Nancy are proud of their recent WKU graduate, daughter, Savannah. And Yankee is the cat-dog of the family.
